ABOUT US
Hi, I’m Liz.
I have a heart for helping others know and feel God’s presence, especially during challenging times.
My journey with the Comfort Cross began when I stumbled across the Comfort cross when buying a gift. I have been Christian most of my life but I needed a tactile reminder of God that grounded me. Living with anxiety and panic attacks, I found solace in holding this handcrafted cross—it became a source of strength, comfort, and a powerful reminder that God was with me, even in my darkest moments.
After much searching, I discovered how to bring these beautiful Comfort Crosses from Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus, to Australia. I also learned that by doing so, I was supporting the skilled artisans in Bethlehem. It was then that the word Shakan was laid on my heart. Shakan is a Hebrew word that means to dwell, to reside, to abide in. This word perfectly captures the message I long to share: God dwells in you. He chooses to be with you, and you are never alone.
Inspired by this, I founded Shakan to share my powerful experience with others. Each Shakan Comfort Cross is lovingly handcrafted from olive wood, a symbol of hope, peace, and resilience. Designed to fit perfectly in your hand, it’s a tool for grounding, prayer, and connection, always reminding you that God is with you.
The olive tree holds deep significance in both the Old and New Testaments. It represents enduring strength and sacred connection to the Holy Land. In Genesis, the dove brought back an olive leaf to Noah, symbolizing hope after the flood. In the Garden of Gethsemane, olive trees stood as Jesus prayed the night before His crucifixion.
The Shakan Comfort Cross is not God—it’s a tool to deepen your connection with Him, to ground you in His love and presence.
The Comfort Cross has truly made a difference in my life. I’m not perfect, I live with anxiety and I get distracted very easy — and there are still times when fear, anxiety, and worry try to overwhelm me. Sometimes, even during my quiet time with God, I find myself distracted. But when I remember to hold the Comfort Cross, something comforting happens. It’s like a gentle reminder to pause, breathe, trust and reconnect to God’s presence. In those moments, His peace, strength, and love wash over me once again.
This is why I’m so passionate about sharing the Comfort Cross with others. My deepest prayer is that it brings you the same comfort, peace, and strength it has brought me—whether you're facing struggles or simply need a reminder of God’s unwavering presence.
